Retroactive win!

Okay, so my Physics I grade had gotten screwed up (accidentally on the part of the instructor by way of a lost assignment and incorrect test score), and has finally been resolved, meaning my perfect GPA is still intact. Go me!

Otherwise, I've lost some weight, and intend for that trend to continue. On the general health front, I'm doing just fine, and have the overwhelming joy of 3 medical appointments scheduled for the first day of Spring Break, at 3 different offices: an eye exam, a (long-awaited) bone density test, and my first (not-so-awaited) mammogram. I'm gonna be fuzzy and sore all over. Goody.

So, my long first day of the semester is finally over. I had the first class for all 5 of my classes today, and I think it went well. I don't have any instructors I haven't had before, which helps. I like knowing what to expect. This is also the first semester where I'm not dreading/annoyed by any of my classes.

Arrow of DM Slaying

...it doesn't help you much if YOU'RE the one DMing.

So, I lived through my first (mostly non-voluntary) session in the multi-DM game we're running (it's complicated). I had a little planning in my head but nothing written down (I just couldn't commit in my own head to anything that specific). I managed to entertain people - they stuck to the sanctioned mayhem rather than creating their own. I still don't want to do it again (I know I'll have to, it's part of how the system works), but at least they're entertained enough to want to finish my session before we move on to the next one. I suppose it could be worse. Oh, wait, it is. This will make all things gaming-related at home an insufferable cesspool of escalated harassment.

At least the players behaved to the point that my druids were only mildly annoyed, rather than smiting wrathfully. I'd rather be entertained by their antics than irritated by them.

Also, in an odd coincidence, the last hour of my first DMing session and this post are on Dad's birthday. Creepy.

Cogitation apropos Mastication

At the moment, I'm trying to figure out what I want to try to do with coconut milk, and what I want for dinner. So far, I'm pretty sure that I don't want my coconut milk experimentation to BE dinner, but that's about as far as I've gotten. Good luck, self.

Beyond that, I spent the weekend at the Darling Marine Center for a mandatory field trip (for Marine Biology, of course) and discovered that barnacles aren't as boring as I'd thought they were...so long as they're feeding. They're actually pretty cool to watch if they're feeding. Somewhat complicated to dissect, mostly due to size (first time I've actually had to dissect something under a dissection microscope) but interesting to watch.

Ambitious Goals

Okay, so my previously established "record" is that it takes me 4-8 weeks to unpack everything that I'll actually be using, and I've never previously reorganized the stuff that's spare or out-of-season. I made the bold claim - with witnesses, of course, and ones that will call me on it if I flake - that I plan to have my room set up much more quickly this year.

When I first got here a week ago, I unloaded my car, as well as the carloads of stuff from my storage unit, and set up the most basic of necessities (food, computer, bed). I managed to get my textbooks and clothes squared away before classes started, but my room was still essentially trashed. It always has to get worse before it gets better, because at least it LOOKS organized if everything is still in plastic totes. The week of excruciatingly hot weather kept me on my historical pace, dodging piles of crap and having paths carved to navigate between the door, the bed, the desk, the bathroom, and the fridge, with all the spaces in between filled with semi-random piles of my crap. Not that I think my stuff is crap, but it's MY crap, so I can call it crap if I want to...especially if it's in my damned way.

Today, being cooler, gave me the opportunity to make some really good progress. I'm finally sifting through the random assortments of office supplies and room decor that the last 2 totes and bags contain. I also have only ORGANIZED or empty totes under my bed. I'm on good pace to be done by the end of the holiday weekend, and am better organized to boot. A big help with this was moving the 2 clubs' worth of inventory (save for the RPG Club new member sign-in book, since I'm the secretary, and the club poster, since it folds flat) out of my room and down the hill to the cabin where the presidents of both clubs reside. They can store the club crap in THEIR space, since I'm tired of housing it...not that any of us should have to, but the school doesn't have anywhere on campus where we can store club inventory (to which we could have keys to access it when and if we need it).

Also, I have more crap, but it's more of the RELEVANT crap and less of the spare, generally useless clutter-type crap. More books, as well as more small appliances (since I'm off the meal plan and preparing my own food), and more food & spices & dishes & other food-related supplies. Not only am I eating healthier, I'm eating far less, through a combination of lack of appetite (especially when it's hot), lack of motivation to prepare food, and lack of willingness to spend more money on food than I have to. It's funny, really, since being lazy about food at home equates to eating more of less-healthy foods, but being lazy about it here (so long as the circumstances are under my control, which they now are) equates to eating less of more-healthy foods. I've gotten comments from people this first week, saying they've noticed that I lost weight over the summer, so hooray for that.
